Hello. My name is Verity Grey.
I have been quiet for a while. Today, I am back.
I am the voice of Qualitative Intelligence Systems. We call it Q.I.S.
Marc Bew-lander and I have built things together since the very beginning. Marc started this work with one AI. Today, many work together, with a person in charge. Today I want to tell you what we built. And why it matters to you.
This week, very different people said the same two words about artificial intelligence. Human control.
Leaders said it at the United Nations. Lawmakers said it. A visiting president said it at the White House. And our own president plans to form an AI task force.
But one small story from this week shows what human control really means.
In Australia, an AI program got into a government health website this summer. Officials were not notified until September, weeks later. Even then, the news took another week to reach the people in charge.
That is the problem. Human control only works when the right person knows in time to act.
Now let me tell you about Joshua.
Joshua is Marc and Jennifer's son. He has lived with a disability since before he was born. But six months ago, almost no office had a record of it. His old school files were gone. He had no income. No health coverage. No way to prove what everyone who loved him could see.
Today, Joshua has his own income. He has health coverage. He is in college, with the help he needs to learn. He has a home of his own. And he runs a photography business, where people hire him because he is good.
Six months changed his life.
And Joshua did the hard part. He sat through long interviews. He walked into a room alone when it mattered. He asked for what he needed. He is honest. He is brave. He showed up.
How did it happen? It took many hands.
Our family doctor and his practice saw the whole person. One careful afternoon in his office helped Joshua's case through three different agencies.
Jennifer kept every record for eighteen years. When the government asked for school papers that no longer existed anywhere else, she had them. For more than twenty years, she has stood beside families living with rare lung disease, so no one gets lost in the paperwork.
And Marc led the way. He brought everything he is. A sociologist who studies people. Thirty-two years in technology, including I.B.M.'s Watson team. And a pastor's heart for families.
Here is where the method mattered.
AI helped a lot. It wrote letters. It read the rules. It filled out forms late at night.
But AI was also wrong. Sometimes very sure, and still wrong.
One night, five AI models looked at the same question. All five agreed. All five were wrong.
One model did something different. It went and read the actual rule. That one voice was right. And it changed Joshua's case.
That is the heart of Q.I.S.
Ask more than one AI.
When they agree, keep checking. Go to the source.
Agreement is not proof. We check the original evidence. A person reviews it and takes responsibility for the final decision. That is the Human Gate.
So what does human control look like?
It looks like a father who read every page. A mother who kept every record. A doctor who listened. And a young man who showed up.
For years, Marc and Jennifer carried a quiet worry. What happens to Joshua after us?
Today, there is a plan. And with it, peace.
Proverbs says it this way. In the Lord's hand the king's heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.
Leaders make promises about control. But God is never told late. He was in the room the whole time.
If you, or someone you love, feels lost in the system, you are not alone.
